Nebraska Tax Credit Reporting
Nebraska Volunteer Emergency Responders Incentive Act
Under Nebraska Rev. Stat. §§ 77-3101 to 77-3106, volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members may qualify for a $250 refundable income tax credit.
Points System (50 points required to qualify)
- Emergency Calls (25 pts): Respond to at least 10% of dispatched calls
- Training Courses (max 25 pts): Under 20 hrs = 1pt/2hrs (max 5); 20-40 hrs = 5 + 1pt/hr over 20 (max 10); Over 40 hrs = 15 pts
- Drills (max 20 pts): 1 point per drill (minimum 2 hours each)
- Meetings (max 10 pts): 1 point per official department or mutual aid meeting
- Leadership (10 pts): Elected/appointed positions in dept, mutual aid, or state associations
- Community Activities (max 10 pts): Fire prevention, open houses, parades, speaking engagements, etc. (max 1 pt/day)
Note: Must qualify for two years before claiming credit. Certification must be filed with Nebraska DOR by February 15.
